Info Linking

Linking the Info Window to the Pedigree Window

Pedigrees can be "linked" to their info screen using the "Link" button at the bottom of the window.  You can unlink or link at any time.  Note the LINK button latches in (toggles).  If there is no Info screen on right now, pressing Link will bring it up.  The window top-bar shows the link/unlink status.

Whenever you "link" a pedigree, the first tab in the info window tracks along with the root dog.  You can also right click on other dogs in the pedigree to add them to the window for analysis, but tracing up and down or changing the root dog always brings you back to Tab #1.

1.  The Main (tabbed) window only shows one InfoWindow at any time (the one for the active Tab).  Seeing more than one could get confusing.

2.  Each pedigree, as mentioned above, has its own InfoWindow.

3.  When in a floating (undocked) pedigree window, you are using its own InfoWindow.

4.  When a Pedigree is "Linked" to its InfoWindow, its Tab #1 data will change along with the pedigree as you move the root dog.  If you trace up and down, Tab #1 will follow the root dog.  You can open other tabs and they will stay there for comparison to the root

There are four "Dock-Link" scenarios:

A. One or more docked pedigrees in the MainWindow and using the main's InfoWindow in UNLINKED mode.

B. One or more docked pedigrees in the MainWindow and using the main's InfoWindow in LINKED mode.

C. One or more floating pedigrees outside the MainWindow, each one using its own InfoWindow in UNLINKED mode.

D. One or more floating pedigrees outside the MainWindow, each one using its own InfoWindow in LINKED mode.

Here is an explanation of each:

A. Docked pedigrees  using the main's InfoWindow in UNLINKED mode:

-You can open multiple pedigrees in the MainWindow, and they will appear as tabs along the top of the window (right click the background or any dogname to see the two different popup menus).  You can only see one pedigree at a time, and you move between them by clicking on the tabs.

-you can right click on any dog in any docked or floating pedigree and add that dog to the Main InfoWindow as a docked tab (or open a floating pedigree).

-changing any of the pedigrees does not change any of the main InfoWindow because they are not LINKED.

-if you use the TRACE arrows to walk up and down the pedigree, nothing will automatically change in the InfoWindow because they are not LINKED.

B. Docked pedigrees using the main's InfoWindow in LINKED mode:

-to LINK a docked pedigree in the MainWindow with the main InfoWindow, press its "Link" button.  It will latch in.  You can have both linked and unlinked pedigrees in the MainWindow; you must press the Link button for each pedigree that you want linked.

-if the InfoWindow is not currently showing, it will become visible when you press Link.

-Any existing dog tabs in the InfoWindow will disappear.

-Tab #1 will be opened in the InfoWindow for the ROOT DOG of the currently selected docked pedigree.

-as you manipulate a pedigree to change the root dog, the Tab #1 of the InfoWindow will follow along, always displaying the Info of the RootDog you are presently looking at in the MainWindow.

-if you give a different pedigree focus in the MainWindow, the previous InfoWindow will be hidden (not erased).  Whether or not the InfoWindow shows for this new dog depends on whether it was showing previously; you have to deliberately turn them on the first time. Note this lets you have some InfoWindows off and some on, depending on which pedigree you are looking at.

-if you use the TRACE arrows to walk up and down any pedigree, Tab#1 in the InfoWindow will follow along.

C. Floating pedigrees each using its own InfoWindow in UNLINKED mode:

-An floating pedigree is a separate (undocked) window that holds only one pedigree.  It cannot have any tabs, but you can have many separate floating pedigree windows (right click any pedigree or dogname to see the menu choices).

-you can right-click any dogname in the pedigree and use the popup menu to add that dog to that pedigree's InfoWindow.

-changing the pedigree does not change any of the dogs in the InfoWindow because it is not LINKED.

-if you use the TRACE arrows to walk up and down the pedigree, nothing will automatically change in the InfoWindow because they are not LINKED.

D. Floating pedigrees each using its own InfoWindow in LINKED mode:

-to LINK the floating pedigree to its InfoWindow, press the "Link" button.  It will latch in.

-if the InfoWindow is not currently showing, it will become visible.

-Any existing dog tabs in the InfoWindow will disappear.

-Tab #1 will be opened in the InfoWindow for the ROOT DOG of the pedigree.

-as you manipulate the pedigree to change the root dog, the Tab #1 of the InfoWindow will follow along, always displaying the Info of its RootDog.

-if you use the TRACE arrows to walk up and down the pedigree, each successive rootdog will appear in Tab #1.  You can manually add other dogs to compare it to and they will not change until deleted.

Tip:  a fast way to clear a lot of tabs out of an InfoWindow is to unlink and then Link again and you will be back to the root dog only.
