This feature allows you to display the common
ancestors of both parents and will show the number of their occurrences
and location in the pedigree. It lists the ancestors in order of
their highest potential genetic involvement in the current dog, from 5 to
15
generations deep. Ancestors beyond 15 generations are not considered
significant, as they are so far removed.
Also shown: the number of dogs included in the
calculations ("unknown" dogs are excluded), the number of unique
dogs, and total number scanned
Clicking on the small “X” in
the SHPX group of buttons at the end of each pedigree line calculates the
Sexlink data for the dog:
 |
|
The sexlink information is presented in the following
format:
-
AncestorName -- name of a dog that is an ancestor
of current dog.
-
Occurences -- number of times ancestor occurs in
selected number generations.
-
Inheritance% -- sum of potential % involvement of
ancestor in current dog.
-
Sex Links -- code showing where in pedigree
ancestor occurs:
-
1S2 means one occurence, Sire's side, 2nd
generation
-
2D4 means two occurences, Dam's side, 4th
generation, etc.
You can scroll down to see more dogs, and select any
one in particular to look further at its data.
Depth of Generations:
The drop-down "combo-box" at the bottom of the
Sexlinks list allows you to calculate up to 15 generations deep, where
some interesting things happen. For
example, try this:
-
Click the
for Dog #1
-
Change the Sexlinks Depth
drop-down combo-box to 15 generations deep (warning: it helps to have a fast
computer!).
-
Scroll down the list to the
dog named Ringgel-Sonne. This dog shows up more than 2860 times
as an ancestor and has more influence than many more-recent ancestors; out of 52,300+ ancestors, only 447 or so are unique.
HINT: Sexlinks calculations can be
very lengthy since the database is probed to distant depths. Depending on your computer speed, you might want to avoid higher
depths due to the calculation time involved.
At present, there is no way to
cancel a lengthy calculation (for instance,
if you select 15 generations deep).
